Jonny Jetboy

This was my first time directing a fully-3D show—a series developed by Keith Chapman. There were bumps from the usual production stuff: pre-production in Thailand and production in China, with time-zone, cultural and language hurdles all over the place. (Although writing, voice-acting and post-production were all on the West Coast.)

To my surprise, the elements I thought would be the most challenging due to their difference from 2D animation—things like camera movement, lensing, surfacing, lighting, etc—turned out to be instantly familiar because of my background in photography.

And I got to co-write the theme song.

Below is a promo trailer for the show. It was a fun challenge: dissecting the 20-odd episodes we had completed by the time the promo had to be made, creating a narrative that introduces everything and leaves you wanting to know more, and making it all fit into 60 seconds. (Then making 30-second and 15-second versions, too.)
